No Longer Slaves – I Am A Child of God

No Longer Slaves

[Verse 1]
You unravel me, with a melody,
You surround me with a song.
Of deliverance, from my enemies,
Till all my fears are gone.

[Chorus]
I’m no longer a slave to fear,
I am a child of God.
I’m no longer a slave to fear,
I am a child of God.

[Verse 2]
From my mothers womb,
You have chosen me,
Love has called my name.
I’ve been born again, into your family,
Your blood flows through my veins.

[Chorus x 2]
I’m no longer a slave to fear,
I am a child of God.
I’m no longer a slave to fear,
I am a child of God.

[Interlude]
I am surrounded
by the arms of the Father.
I am surrounded
by songs of deliverance.
We’ve been liberated
from our bondage.
We’re the sons and the daughters
let us sing our freedom.

[Bridge x 2 ]
You split the sea
so I could walk right through it.
My fears were drowned in perfect love.
You rescued me
and I will stand and sing
I am a child of God.

[x 4]
I am a Child of God.

[Chorus]

Bethel Music : No Longer Slaves Lyrics
No Longer Slaves // Preformed by : Jonathan David & Melissa Helser
Written by : Jonathan Helser, Joel Case, & Brian Johnson

We can consider this song as part of our own personal stories that make up life.  We can hear the words and feel we are God’s Created Children and that is good, there’s nothing wrong in that, but it’s also good to know about the context of this song.  No Longer Slaves is the Exodus story.  It’s a song about the salvation of God’s people as Moses led the Israelites from slavery in Egypt across the Red Sea.  “You split the sea so I could walk right through it” refers to Moses holding up his staff and God parting the sea by creating strong walls of water for the Israelites to walk safely through and across the sea bed.  “My fears were drowned in perfect love” are some lovely words that may touch us individually on our personal journey to the Father – in the Exodus story they refer fears of slavery and bondage then to the drowning of Pharaoh and his army as the sea closes around them.

I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be their slaves no more; I have broken the bars of your yoke and made you walk erect.
Leviticus 26:13
