Secular Franciscans seek the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ in the world around us. His presence is something truly felt, it is very real, he guides our path as we travel through life with him and for him. And we are called by St Francis and St Clare to show Christ-like qualities to others. We are drawn to see others with Christ’s eyes. To see those in need, those in pain and those who hurt.
Every face you glanced at today was the face of someone God loves and cherishes.
We live in this world and it’s where we come to know the presence of Christ. We hope to share the glory, wonder and love of Jesus with others we meet day-to-day by being little sermons, and examples of Christ by the way we live our lives.
We live in this world, it’s our environment, it’s where we meet with our brothers and sisters, it’s where we rebuild the Church and it’s here where we share the Blood and Body of Christ in the Eucharist.

OFS RULE 5:
Secular Franciscans, therefore, should seek to encounter the living and active person of Christ in their brothers and sisters, in Sacred Scripture, in the Church, and in liturgical activity. The faith of St. Francis, who often said, “I see nothing bodily of the Most High Son of God in this world except His most holy body and blood,” should be the inspiration and pattern of their Eucharistic life.
This Rule explains that we can meet Christ throughout the day:
- in our brothers and sisters
- in Scripture
- in the Church
- in prayer
- in the Eucharist
